Today inclination towards looting, snatching and preserving became pleasure giving activity. Land grabbing is not knew for present history. It prevailed even at the time of kings. Really speaking number of wars fought against only for fertile lands. In those days there was no individual land ownership. The lands under king were cultivated by the people. In later period when the attitude of ‘this land is mine’ started then began the land business. Now this land business took other dimension which we otherwise called real estate. Now everywhere there increased lot of pressure on land especially for building apartments or commercial establishments etc. At the beginning this real estate business held legally following all rules and regulations in force. Gradually this business transformed into multiple dimensions that paved way for illegal activities. Sometimes lands belong to poor people occupied by luring them with small payments. Such people didn’t know the fact behind such luring, sold out their lands with cheaper rates. Then gradually realtors felt instead of taking the lands of poor, it is very easy for them to grab the government lands. With this trend now lakhs of acres in Telangana have gone under illegal occupations. In past, land lords used to donate lands for Temples. Now such lands became centre point for illegal occupations. Land grabbers now focused on such ‘inaam’ lands. In order to occupy them at any cost, they are indulging fraudulent activities luring the officials. In reality occupying such lands not only illegal but also treated as criminal activity. If anybody indulges in such activities, may be punished under criminal proceedings. Still the immoral people are not hesitating to occupy such lands, utilising the loop holes in the acts. With this in previous ten years period thousands of temple lands gone under real estate business. Such corrupted people even not hesitated to occupy the lands given to poor under ‘Bhudan movement’. Those who occupied such lands are very much close to political leaders. Sometimes they may be relatives of the government officials. Those who occupied the government lands became like wonder tree (kalpataruvu) for real estate business people. Like that, the offences enter upon in land occupations became like golden mask for real estate business. Now these business people inquiring about the places where government lands are present, luring the registrars and make them to transfer such lands in their names.
In previous ‘Neti Dhatri’ wrote number of stories on such fraudulent activities taking place in Telangana State. Higher officials indifferent towards these illegal occupations and they felt that raising land rates is the symbol for development. They have not made any attempt to know the fact, if real boom is there or in the name of boom fraudulent activities were being taking place? Even ‘Neti Dhatri’ published number of stories against this fraud; nobody in the government took care. Now new government came to power. Revanth Reddy also raised this land grabbing issue number of previous occasions. As per his assurances now he has been concentrating on such illegal activities and giving instructions to officials to make inquire about them. In this background C.C. Santhakumari recently conducted review meeting with officials and directed them to list out those lands under occupation and actual land area under government possession. With this act now fraudulent people remain in fear of action against them. Actually they felt, Revanth Reddy government also continue like previous one. But after coming to power Chief Minister has been showing what he is! Now he has been concentrating on land grabbing activities took place in previous years.
During Covid-19 period remain a dangerous time when people fell in deep fear about their lives. In such circumstances automatically land registrations reached to bottom level which is the main income source for the government. So government gave instructions to officials to take steps to increase income on registrations. This had given good opportunity for real estate business people and registrars to indulge in fraudulent activities. Then land mafia began to inquire about government lands in various places and continued their occupations. As usually the Revenue and Registration officials extended their cooperation to them. Really speaking without their assistance, it is impossible for anybody to identify such lands. Like that officials made registration such lands in the name of real estate business people. Another tragedy is that, when large number of people in villages feared comes out of their houses due to Corona Virus. Taking this as an advantage, Hundreds of acres of lands belong to poor people had been registered in the name of real estate business men. Hundreds of acres of assigned lands allocated to dalits were also registered in favour of political leaders. They also attacked dalits who want to enter into their lands. Police cases filed against such poor people and harassed them physically as well as mentally. Number of innocent people died of mental agony caused by land loss. There were incidents that, some realtors occupied the assigned lands belong to dalits and constructed apartments. ‘Neti Dhatri’ exposed all these activities but left in vain. Land grabbing’s took place from Hyderabad to Adilabad and Mahabubnagar to Khammam. Officials in the lure of getting huge amounts as bribes from realtors have made illegal registrations in favour of business people. The main aim of the officials was to settle in their lives with earning sufficient money. In this background, government lands, assigned lands, Bhudan lands, temple lands…like every type of lands fraudulently registered to realtors. In these transactions officials accumulated fixed properties and land grabbers earned crores of rupees. In recent some of such officials caught and if inquiries go further deep the illegal activities of number of officials will come out. There will be possibility to recover such occupied lands.
