Karimnagar district is well known for its participation in various movements. It is well known for its consciousness. Due to draught porn area, highest migrations being takes place to Dubai like countries from this district. People also migrated to Bombay, Sholapur, Pune like cities to eke out their lives. Once upon a time severe water problem prevailed in the district even River Godavari flows through this region. Youth began to attract towards forests to join in extremist groups like Naxals. Even abundant natural resources and vast granite deposits are present; Karimnagar people continue to live in poverty because inability to transform those lands useful enough to provide not only lively hood but also earn plenty of money. Due to lack of water, farming totally depended on hide and seek monsoons. This type of monsoon depend farming faced up and downs which led to suicides of farmers who caught in debt trap. Since centuries Dalit families continue to live in poor conditions. Fifty years back then governments distributed lands to them. But without water how farming is possible? For this purpose digging of wells is essential. Even if anyone try to dig well with his available limited financial resources failures were very common. In such situation large number of dalits and poor people were not willing to take such dare steps which remain like lottery. In such adverse circumstances, this district has one advantage. That is mineral wealth.
Entire district contain plenty of world class granite deposits those have lakhs of crores worth. The innocent dalits don’t know about this wealth which is hiding under hillocks. The only fact they know that these hillocks are not useful for farming. They are unaware about the cost of these granite stones. In these circumstances mining business people gradually began to enter into the field and started to lure the poor people. By distributing food grains to those innocent people and gradually projected themselves as well wishers. Those people, who are suffering with hunger problem, felt that rice is enough for them and blindly believed the cheating words of those mining mafia. Finally they kept their lands in the hands of such deceit people. Still this process is going on. When Government handed over those lands to them, never informed about the value of granite deposits present in their fields. Even after that government never took steps to takeover those lands and make justice to them. Instead of that government gave incentives to mining business peoples and helped them to get loans from banks. With this mining business gradually rose to peak level in the district. Hundreds of crores of business turnover is being taking place in this region. Lands required for this business is procured by private business players from these innocent people just paying very little amounts. Like that this business has been flourishing since decades. At the same time those business people easily getting licences to continue their activities for coming decades.
PSR granite is one among such companies. At present it is largest one among other companies. It got excellent experience in granite business so every day number of blasts takes place in those mining areas which are under this company. With these mining activities surrounding lands belongs to dalits gradually losing their fertility due to spreading of dust from these activities. They dumped the waste into surrounding fields and gradually began to occupy those lands. In this process the assigned lands given by government turned into uncultivable one. At first the granite businessmen approached the farmers and allured them with their deceit words. First they pay some amount to such farmers and take the land under their control. Then they began to dump the quarry waste into those lands and turn them not useful for cultivation. Finally the farmers have no other way except sell that land to those business people. Like that granite mining gradually expanding in the district.
Now poor farmers and dalits are becoming victims by losing their lands. Nobody is there to question such mining people on their fraudulent activities and deceiving methods following to occupy lands. If anyone dares enough to raise questions, such person will face attacks as answer. They are not letting even media and officials. As per assigned act, assigned lands shall not be disposed. But unknowingly dalits fell into the trap of business mafia. In these circumstances government is not taking any steps to protect those lands belong to dalits and poor farmers. Even the government is not getting income in the form of taxes from these business men. Hundreds of crores tax dues still not paid. But nobody is bother about them. Instead, these granite people give crores of rupees to political leaders to continue their activities without any interruption. So no political party come forward to take steps against them. Looking at this situation, no higher official shows intension to take action. Officials may come and go business continue forever. This is the prevailing granite story in Karimnagar district. In this snake and ladder play, poor farmers and dalits remain victims of snake bite. Business people always remain beneficiaries of ladder and rise to higher levels. After losing their lands victims remain poor and goes for work on daily wages to eke out their lives. Like that misfortune in the form of mining mafia plays with the future of dalits and let them stand at bottom.
Officials won’t heed the voice of such victims. Police stations won’t show any inclination towards these poor people. All concern department officials are under the control of this mafia. Number of frightful things happen, mining continue to expand within sight and it is not astonishing to say that mining has no boundaries. No outsider is allowed into those mining areas. Even police also don’t go to those places. Officials fears to have a look at those sites. Officials will get their share and remain kept quite. It is learnt that the blasting materials used in mining areas are not according to the rules. Mining people won’t follow the instructions of officials who explain them about the blasting material to be used. Instead they use that material as their own will. Blasting occurs day and night. For example Sarvaipalle village people living every second with fear because of these blasts. Which stone will fall on their house and who will lost his life nobody knows. Such a dangerous situation prevailed in those surrounding villages of mining places. Still mining will not be stopped. Those who lost their rights won’t get them back. Everybody shows indifferent towards poor people. All these situations make the poor to remain poor.
