Khammam traditionally remains a strong fort for Congress. Congress, Communists, and Telugudesam parties generally have the support of the people. BRS has no chance to spread in this district. Khammam is a very enlightened district and people give their support to only traditional rival parties. During his tenure, KCR tried his level best to make BRS much stronger in the district but his efforts were in vain. People have not shown any interest in BRS. The district with well social awareness always questioned the oppression. In 1969, the Telangana movement started from this district only. The second time even though the people supported the KCR movement for Telangana’s cause, they did not fully own BRS as fulfiller of their aspirations. This caused BRS to face losses in the district. Here KCR’s self-done is also one cause for this disastrous situation for the party. He always extended support to those who spoiled the reputation of the party and greatly neglected those who strived hard for the sake of BRS. Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is such a strong leader capable of keeping the party in a strong position. Neglecting him KCR committed a great mistake. For that now he is facing the result. Now Ponguleti is in Congress and immediately after joining the party, he made the party very strong after winning more Assembly seats in the district. At present, he made the district a strong fort for Congress, which already had a history of giving support to this grand old party. In this background, Ponguleti who now emerged as a strong leader in the district, has been causing other parties to struggle for subsistence. As the polling date is nearer, Congress is becoming stronger and BRS gradually losing its ground. Fighting the elections means that from nomination till poling strictly conducting a campaign is the process that shall be followed by the contesting candidates. This time it seems BRS lost its total hopes of getting victory.
BRS lost its confidence
Nama Nageswar Rao has a good reputation as a strong leader. In previous he had run politics in the name of the party, but now unable to continue them because of prevailing critical situation. He made it clear to KCR that he would not contest the elections. There is no other way in the situation of compulsion; KCR gave him the ticket for the Khammam seat. Now Nama has no confidence even in second position to get. So he is not showing any interest in the campaign because he knows well about the final result. In these circumstances, BRS party workers also do the campaign in nominal form only. It is said that Nama is of the strong opinion that, when there are no winning chances, what is the need for spending money? Even rigorous campaign is made, there will be no improvement in the votes. If you do or undo the there will be no change in the votes given by the people. So Nama decided to continue his campaign nominally in the Khammam constituency. The visible domination in the campaign for Congress made the people discuss the victory of this party.
Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy’s victory will confirm the background of Congress’s strong position in the district. At the same time Communists also extending their support to the party paves the easy way for victory. During previous elections, Ponguleti pledged that he would not allow other parties to win even a single Assembly seat in the district and kept his promise of winning all seats for the Congress party. Even now also he is giving the same assurance of winning the seat for the Congress party. The assurance given with strong will left the party leadership with confidence in winning the Khammam seat. The people in the district are left with total confidence in Ponguleti’s leadership. This is the main reason for definite winning chances for Congress. Now there is no opposition to the word of Ponguleti in the district. At the same time, we must remember that three ministers are there from this district. All these are causing to provide strong leadership in the district. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka also belongs to this same district and has remained in Congress for a long time. In all Assembly segments in the district Congress party has its MLAs. This is another fetching point for it and making a cakewalk for victory.
It is difficult for BRS
In these prevailing favorable conditions for Congress, it is not easy for BRS to win the seat. No worker is there for BRS to carry its flag. Nama is also not showing any interest in continuing his campaign. Being sitting MP, KCR convinced him to contest again and gave ticket. Till now several MPs have gone down the ‘car’ searching for their political future. Even though Warangal rejected the ticket announced by BRS, Kavya joined Congress. Now she is contesting the Warangal seat with Congress ticket. The BRS is gradually moving in a decline path so the situation in Khammam, the party is not showing better than in the remaining state. People are in confident that the first winning result for Congress will be declared from Khammam.
The wind is against BRS
The coming five years will become very difficult for BRS. This party is not in a position to recover in the district. Depending on Nama Nageswar Rao’s moving forward creates negative opinions on the party among the people. Since BRS faced defeat in previous elections difficulties started for it. Prominent leaders in the party gradually one by one left the car and Nama Nageswar Rao became a nominal who was not at all showing interest in the campaign. It became very difficult for him, to face a hill like Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy in these elections. Now Ponguleti is in a position to control the entire district just with his word.
Nama is trailing behind
Nama is not showing any interest in to contest. No mechanism is there to support him. No leaders are present in support. When defeat is already decided what is the use of spending the money? This is the question raised by Nama and his followers. What is the need to spend money on a campaign, when you know perfectly who is going to win the elections? KCR roadshow gave some push, but it remains temporary. People on a large scale attending the meeting is not a sign that all of them will vote in favor of the party. There is no problem when people turn against a party, but when the leaders face protests from the people everywhere causes embracement for them. At present Nama Nageswar Rao has been facing such antagonism from the people. Recently when he went to TDP office, he received protests. These parliamentary elections will decide whether Nama is causing loss to the party or the Party is the cause for damage to his political career. Now Nama has become unpopular in the district and there is doubt whether he can get a respectable margin of votes. Whatever it may be Congress is moving forward to win this seat with a great majority. Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy definitely will become MP from Khammam.
