Generally we have a strong opinion on police that they always be merciless and stubborn in their nature. But when we look at other angle, there is strength, brevity and belief behind police. When any person in society wants to move with self confidence and brevity there must require the presence of police behind him. Then only confidence increases in such persons and can be able to move their steps forward with much more firmness. Whenever we face injustice, our first approach is towards police only. Any time any place, only police stand in support of victims. There are number of young people in our society always dreams to become police. The uniforms they wear represent the steadiness, dignity and integrity of the police. In a diversified society every person has his own aspirations. So, all the people may not show interest on police profession. Everybody has his own likes and dislikes. Those who have an attitude to serve the society as well as country only choose police profession. No police can say that he selected for the post in unsolicited manner. We can’t find anybody saying, ‘I got this post in unavoidable circumstances’. Ninety percent in this profession boldly say that, they have chosen this way as their goal and relentless hard work only made them to select. That is the greatness and uniqueness of the police profession. Discrimination is like black mark on white paper. In this disciplined profession there is no place for disparities. But, when we observe the style of working of women police, it will become crystal clear that they are being subjected to discrimination. They have been continuing in the profession just by bearing the day to day problems. Either man or woman entered into this profession with clear vision and by keeping it as their bold target.
Discrimination in police department is common
Even in the position of SP and above rank women officers’ also have been subjected to discrimination even they are doing their duties in equal efficiency along with their fellow police officers. After reaching one stage they are being kept off from climbing the promotion ladder even they have ability and eligibility to get higher posts. Can you show any woman police officer reached to the level of DGP? Whereas, women IAS officers are getting timely promotions and even reaching to the highest position like Chief Secretary and getting retirement from such levels. But in Police Department till now there is no single incident that a woman officer raised to DGP level. In previous governments then Chief Ministers were not willing to give the portfolio of Home Minister to a woman. But Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy for the first time gave Home Ministry to Sabita Indrareddy. Since then some women police officers had given promotions up to some level but no one reached to DGP level. In our police system women officers never lag behind in doing their duties efficiently along with their fellow police officers. Why doesn’t the rulers show interest to solve the ‘discrimination’ problem prevail in police department? Even in those states where women Chief Ministers ruled, this disparity continued and they never shown interest to took any steps to recognise the hard working nature of women police officers. At every level woman police officers have been facing discrimination with the patriarchal way of thinking that deeply rooted in the department. This shows the real stage where we are? When we observe, in every department employees either men or women have freedom to question the injustice or discrimination happened against them. They explain media about the injustice caused to them and even don’t hesitate to complaint about it in police station. But we won’t see such incidents of those women officers raising their voice against the injustice causing to them in the department. The prevailing system is not giving them a chance and even if they resort to question, higher officials won’t heed them showing the cause of discipline. In the name of loss of prestige higher officials shun such voices. Why this disparity only on women in this department? Can the department give a chance to women to detail their troubles facing? How long these disparities continue against women police officers? This is nothing but suppression of their rights. Who can stand in favour of such officers who have been facing miseries in the department?
Till now no discussions held on problems of women police
Nature created two types of living beings. One is male and other one is female. When we keenly observe in lowest animals, some specific importance to female is seen. Even in ant, bee like living creatures’ female one has given greatest importance. Queen bee, Queen Ant exercises their full control on remaining one.
Only female tiger participate in hunting. Then why this disparity is prevailing in this human society which we consider as highly developed against women? Do you know how women constables treated in police stations and how they are called by their higher officers? In behind the wall of prestige all such atrocities are being buried under the base of discipline. In any posts women appointed means they have required qualification and equally participated in competition and finally selected with their hard work. Then, what sin they have committed to face such discrimination? It is not good for the officers to reason out such disparities are very common. The police system which created to protect the people in the society from any type of discrimination and harassments itself remains epicentre for such inflictions is really pitiable. This is nothing more than deceiving ourselves.
Duties in women police station shall be given to them
Why male CIs and SIs are being posted in women police stations? Is there is no availability of women CIs or SIs? Why they have been denied postings in those police Stations? Entrusting traffic duties to women police is nothing but discrimination and like punishment imposed on them. This is also one type of physical harassment causing to them. A male police have facilities to rectify his naturally caused problems. Where as a female police won’t have such chances. They have to stay till their duty ends. That means once they keep their foot out of their home, till reaching they have no option to solve their natural problems. Every day we use to hear the health principles explained by Manthena Satyanarayana. As per his directions, every day average human being requires two litres of water for their body requirements. Even doctors also suggest drinking more water. The women in traffic section can’t drink more water. With this blood becomes more concentrated and Blood pressure and sugar complaints may arise at early ages. In these circumstances Women CIs and SIs shall be posted in women police stations. Then only their problems get solved. Present Government shall require responding positively in this regard. For this purpose entire police system requires enlightenment regarding to women police problems. Only discussions can’t bring changes in the system. There shall be an action plan and require sincere implementation. Unfortunately for the programmes organised on women’s day celebrations, women police only entrusted the responsibilities of security. Now it is needed for those who are in higher positions in the government to take actions in favour of women police who are still not getting proper treatment in doing their jobs.
